Opportunity - Assistant Vice President, Development

The Night Ministry

The Ideal Candidate

A pro at the grants process, you have successfully built relationships with private and public funders, written complex grants, and worked collaboratively with the program staff to convey their objectives. With your experience managing people and projects you are ready for a significant leadership role where your focus is supporting a team of professionals to manage a diverse and growing grant portfolio of over $5 million and all external communications. Equally comfortable with a program officer as you are with clients, your enthusiasm and attention to detail shines through in any circumstance.

The Organization

The Night Ministry (TNM) is a Chicago-based organization that works to provide housing, health care, and human connection to members of our community struggling with poverty or homelessness.  With a focus on relationships but driven by metrics and results, TNM balances being an on the ground social service agency, including administrative offices co-located with programs and services, with strategic focus and business acumen. Nationally recognized, with a strong board, diverse and growing revenue, and a passionate team of staff and volunteers, TNM has bold plans for the future.

The Opportunity

The fundraising team is an integral part of TNM, warmly inviting people and organizations to participate through their financial support.  With a committed donor base and track record of success, the new Assistant Vice President will be a lynchpin in achieving the ambitious strategic plan. This is a chance to be part of a high performing, mission driven team making a difference every day.  Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Assistant VP will lead a team of three professionals to achieve grant strategy and communication goals.

Desired Characteristics

The successful candidate will be a seasoned fundraiser experienced in both the private and public grant making process, with significant experience managing people and projects.  They will also be experienced in setting strategy and managing external communications, including media and social media. While they will have a strong orientation to deadlines and details, they won't get bogged down in minutiae, able to make decisions and keep things moving forward with the big picture in mind.  A listener at heart, they are as comfortable in the background as they serving as a point person with key funders. While serious about the work, the right candidate knows how to have fun, build relationships, and will be committed to the mission and values of TNM.

Requirements include:

  • Ten years of people and project management experience, including the ability to set and achieve goals with people, motivate staff, and move forward with multiple projects
