Department: Outreach and Health Ministry (OHM)

Reports to: Director, OHM

FLSA:  Non-exempt

Position Summary: Coordinate activities related to the provision of HIV & STI testing

General Purpose:  Manage all aspects of HIV & STI testing and staff, which include statistical reporting, liaison, outreach, testing, follow-up and staff supervision.

Role Qualifications:

  • Must provide management for program and staff.
  • Must work closely and in collaboration with other members of OHM and volunteers to ensure delivery of services.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Accurate and timely data entry in external and internal data bases, i.e. Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).
  • Provide and supervise rapid HIV/STI testing, pre- and post-test counseling, and outreach to Outreach Bus sites and sites throughout the city, targeting most at-risk populations.
  • Review counseling notes and meet regularly with health and pastoral services coordinators to ensure requested services are appropriately delivered by all HIV testers.
  • Monitor, maintain and order supplies
  • Be responsible for data management; maintain accurate reporting through electronic medical records.
  • Research and develop community relationships to locate alternative testing venues and partnerships; develop and nurture referral agreements with other service agencies and offer referrals to visitors.
  • Attend all mandatory CDPH meetings, and monthly CAHISC (Chicago Area HIV Integrated Services Council) meetings.
  • Supervise testing worker(s) and interns; oversee volunteers (when assigned)
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • According to The Night Ministry's policies, this position is expected to carry a cell phone and is eligible for partial reimbursement of monthly cell phone bills.


Essentials skills and experience:

  • Three to five years experience in health or outreach
  • B.A. in social services or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Certified in pre- and post- Counseling and Testing through Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) or Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) highly regarded
  • Ability to respond calmly to emergencies and in accordance with Night Ministry policies
  • Comfortable working with homeless people, sex workers (male and female), youth, people from many ethnic and racial communities, and people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and writing abilities
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.


Nonessential skills and experience:

  • Master's degree
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Spanish language skills

The employee must be able to stand outdoors for as log as six hours or more, exposed to all varieties of Chicago weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may vary at the different locations required in this job.
