Reports to: VP, Development and External Relations

The Night Ministry is a Chicago-based organization that works to provide housing, health care and human connection to members of our community struggling with poverty or homelessness. With an open heart and an open mind, we accept people as they are and work to address their immediate physical, emotional and social needs while affirming their sense of humanity. Through The Night Ministry's Health Outreach Bus, Youth Outreach Program and Youth Shelter Programs, each year we provide services to 5,200 adults, teens, pregnant and new moms who have nowhere else to go. 

Position Summary:  The Night Ministry is looking to hire a Senior Associate, Communications.  The Senior Associate will promote the mission of the organization through the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication plan. 

Key duties include: write and/or coordinate the narrative for the organization along with quarterly newsletters, manage relationships with the press, and presence on social media (primarily Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook).   The Senior Associate, Communications will also oversee graphic design, website development and maintenance. 


  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of The Night Ministry
  • Bachelor's degree and two or more years' professional experience managing press relationships
  • Excellent communications skills including written copy (long and short form) and the ability to clearly translate program and policy statistics for a range of audiences
  • Proven capacity to manage the organization's website (currently on Dream Weaver) and all graphics and photography on a limited budget
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment committed to fulfilling the mission, supporting each other, and having fun along the way

Additional qualifications desired, but not essential:

  • Familiarity with InDesign, Illustrator, Quark, HTML, Dream Weavers, Publisher, PhotoShop
  • Experience with social service agencies with similar missions or other nonprofit organizations
  • Hands on capabilities to complete graphics, photographic and web design work

Candidates must provide writing samples and a writing/editing assignment onsite.
